Playing with Craft Artist Effects again

I belong to a Craft Artist Facebook Group & I am constantly being amazed by the things that the ladies & gents manage to get the software to do.

After seeing about a week ago, what one lady had done with masks & photos I had to have a go & thought you might like to see the outcome.

It is actually on a white background.  A shape is produced by linking - in my case - a circle, a couple of flowers & tendrils.  These are then "joined" together as one item.  You then put your photo on the page & create a mask layer which causes your photo to seem to disappear.  When you bring the shape onto the page the photo magically appears through it.  Opens up all sorts of lovely layouts.  There just aren't enough hours in the day.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you enjoyed your visit.

CD Sunday - Bundle of Joy

Just popped back to edit the post as I forgot the link to CD Sunday.

Time for another challenge over at CD Sunday Challenge blog where the theme this week is "Bundle of Joy"

I am not a big user of cutie images although I have used them more recently - so I needed to find something that fitted the bill without being too cutsie.  After a look among the possible CD's this is what I decided to create;

A gate-fold card - a large one too.
OK - you can't see the "bundle of joy" - but it is there in the pram.

Here is another view showing it slightly open & the layers are more visible.

For this card I used My Craft Studio CD Papercraft Library Volume 5 - Faith Hope & Charity.  This new mum is Charity.

I didn't have a gate-fold card big enough for the design so I created one from 2 6" x 4" cards joined together with backing card & an insert.  I printed 2 copies of the topper & cut out Charity & the pram, the flower in the tub on the right & the bird in the tree to 3-d them.  The background papers look like cross stitch material which went with the rather homespun appeal of these images.

This little pendant I also printed twice.  The second layer is the pendant without the bow & before attaching it to the card I inked it with Versamark ink then embossed it with Clear EP to give it the look of glass.  That doesn't show up very well in the photo.

All I need now is someone I know to have a daughter or grand-daughter so that I can give the card to them.

DSC #28 - Happy Spring

Well! with all this snow it is nice to think about Spring & all its lovely pastel colours.  My little daffodils in the garden had begun to think it was spring - I hope the snow doesn't kill them off.

So - with their theme being Happy Spring I thought I would enter the Digitally Sweet Challenge.
Here is my page

I created this page in Serif Craft Artist & used a background paper & some embellishments from CaroLines Daffodil Digikit. I wanted a pastel yellow page & looking through my photos of flowers that I had received or taken when out & about - these yellow daisy style flowers were the only choice.  I am not sure exactly what flowers they are - would chrysanthemums be out at that time of year?

Thank you for popping in to my blog I hope you enjoyed your visit.  If you are troubled by this snow then please take care & keep warm.

Oh no! Snow again

Like many people I awoke to a white carpet across the outside.  When it snowed earlier this year I didn't get any photos as we didn't have it too bad.

So first thing, camera out & some shots taken.  Now I have put some together on a page using Serif Craft Artist.

I chose a digi-kit called "Let it Snow" which seemed appropriate.  The background with the be-ribboned panel is one piece.  I took one of the photos - which happens to be the view from the front of the house & laid it on the background.  Then I reduced the transparency to merge it into the background. Next I took the photo taken across our rear garden - which also includes a neighbour's pergola in the view - & placed that on the corner of the page inside a photo mask.  The photo mask is just like a black ragged edge blob but when you add a photo over it the photo takes on the shape of the "blob".  Very clever.

It hasn't stopped snowing all day - mostly just little flakes - but now it is snowing quite hard again - so it will be deeper by tomorrow.

If you have the snow & have to go out in it - please take great care.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you enjoyed your visit.

CD Sunday Challenge - Wonderful Wings

I'm late, I'm later for a very important date.  Well! I will be if I don't post my card for the challenge over at  CD Sunday Challenge blog.  The theme this week is "Wonderful Wings".

I think the main reason I am late is because I kept changing my mind as to what to do.  I tried to find something a little different - & failed.  But I did find this rather lovely humming bird on a My Craft Studio CD called Wings & Things (CD2).

I printed one of the background papers twice at A5 size, then a matching one with the flowers on & a central aperture for an image.  Finally I selected the humming bird to go inside the aperture.  Having sat staring at my printouts for a few minutes I decided on an easel card.  Even though I watch the measurements of things created in MCS I still managed to print these a little larger than I wanted.  So this is quite a large card.

I printed some extra elements - the small & large green flowers which I cut out & placed on sticky pads over the original flowers.  I also printed out the red coloured flower which I used to make my easel stops.  Some gold ribbon round the easel part of the card behind the main image & a little red flower with a pink gem centre placed just by the birds beak as if he was sipping the nectar from that flower.

I haven't put a sentiment on the front as I have a couple of options that I can later use this card for so will add it then.

Thank you for stopping by I hope you enjoyed your visit.

faux stamping

With my other interest being rubber stamping I am always looking for ways that crafts cross each other.

Today I had a go at replicating a fairly new stamping technique called Triple Stamping.  Simply put the image is stamped across 3 layers then the card is put together by inserting layers of coloured card between.

Confused - well take a look at this

Not too difficult to do digitally & also rather effective.  I am rather partial to monochrome designs as well - so it works well for me - I am rather pleased with it.  The design will be cut out in one piece & placed on the front of a square card.  Nice CAS card that will come in very useful.

Thank you for popping inn I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Playing with craft artist effects

I didn't feel like watching TV this evening so after catching up on emails & telephone calls I decided to take another look at some of the photographic effects in Serif Craft Artist

I chose one of the photos I had taken of my Mother's Day bouquet & inspired by some work by one of the ladies in the Serif Craft Artist's Facebook group created this page;

I played with the effects first then built the page.  The background paper is the photo that I worked with - without any effects other than I reduced the transparency so that it faded back.  I then placed the 4 different effects together & drew a shape around them increasing the width of the outline.  I tried different colours for the outline & decided that black had the most impact.  I then searched for a pretty embellishment & found the one that is on the side of the page which just seemed to be waiting to be selected.  There was still something that was needed without adding too much & in one of those rare flashes of inspiration I drew a shape around the background paper, increased the width of the line & changed the colour to black to match the photos.

I like very much!

cd sunday - land of the pharaohs

My - the weeks go by faster & faster - time once again for a challenge over at CD Sunday Challenge Blog & this week the theme is "Land of the Pharaohs".

For this challenge I knew I had only one CD that would have the images - the Joanna Sheen CD - "Egyptian Adventure".  Then I also remembered that for ages I have had a sheet of paper that looks very much like papyrus - so finally time to use some of it.

Here is the card

When I was going through the CD looking at the images I noticed one that had the papyrus type of background - so it just had to be that one.  I used the decoupage sheet that can be printed direct from the CD & used the frame along with the couple on the background.  I then cut out the layer with the couple & the plinth on, & from a third image I cut the central part of their clothes.  I also used one of the greetings from the sheet.  I crumpled my papyrus sheet to age it a little more & distressed the edges a little as well.

Here is a close-up of the couple where you can better see the decoupage work.  Although I am disappointed to find that I seem to have left some little white edges in places - mainly around the tricky to cut areas.  I really am not very good at decoupage - but I enjoyed the challenge.

Thank you for stopping by my little blog - perhaps you could find time to leave a comment they are always appreciated.  Criticisms welcome too - but don't be too unkind!!!

Why not click on the link above & go & take a look at the lovely cards on the challenge blog.

playing with effects

I haven't played with the different effects & fun things in Serif Craft Artist for quite a while - so whilst having my morning cup of tea I thought I would have a little play.

I took a couple of the photos of the beautiful bouquet I received for mothers day & used those.  Here is the page;

I used the photo of the gypsophelia as my background again (see yesterdays post) & increased the transparency, & gave it an edge called "glow" which softens the edges. Then I used the stained glass effect on it.  The two flower photos I put inside white square frames then tried different effects on them & in the end chose the pencil effect.

I think I shall take this page as a base to try out other effects & masks - which is something else I haven't used enough.

Thank you for stopping by my little blog I hope you found it interesting.

Sketches in Thyme #104

When I saw the latest sketch over at Sketches in Thyme I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to create a page with it as it has space for 6 photos.

Then yesterday afternoon I received the inspiration to join in this challenge - a beautiful bouquet of flowers for Mothers Day from my step-son.

Here is the sketch

and here is my page;

The page was created in Serif Craft Artist & I used the photos & their colours to create everything except the white frames which came from a digikit on my computer.  I selected one of the photos I had taken of the Gypsophelia to create my background.paper.

Thank you for visiting my little blog space I hope you found it interesting & if you have time perhaps you would leave a comment.

I hope all Mums receive as lovely a gift as I did.

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day everyone.

The greeting goes to all of you who are Mums, have Mums & like me are Mums to those who are not of our blood.  Of course not forgetting those Mums who are no longer with us in person but are with us in our hearts.

So here is a bouquet for you all.

cd sunday - butterflies

Hi everyone - what a beautiful sunny day - it really makes you feel more cheerful, doesn't it?

The challenge over at CD Sunday this week is Butterflies.  So for this challenge I went back to My Craft Studio & the various CD's of theirs that I have.  The one I used was "Wings & Things" & everything except the basic card came from that one option.

Here is my offering for this challenge;

A box card with a beautiful butterfly inside - just like those display boxes.  Well! sort of.  The frame is a 3-d frame which when assembled creates a little box frame.  I was going to put acetate in the aperture but realised this would make it difficult to photograph. Before placing the background paper on the card I found a green Promarker that was close to the colour in the paper & went round the edges of the white card.  This looked much better than a white edge.

Here is another view so that the box is a little more obvious;

The background paper & box paper are a very pretty shade of grey-green - it was meant to be blue so I suspect one of my ink cartridges is running low.

Here are close ups of the butterflies.

You can just see the glitter that I applied to the wings.  I cut out 3 butterflies & placed one flat on the background then placed a second over the top of it on sticky pads & finally put just the front half of the wings on, also on sticky pads shaping it for realism.  I couldn't cut the antennae out so that was put on with a fine black pen afterwards.

This is the butterfly that is sitting at opposite corners, & is just glued onto the card by the body.

I have been meaning to try one of these frame boxes for ages - & this seemed the right project for it.

Thank you for visiting my little blog space I hope you found it interesting.
